Up to 1999 only two books on Dutch violin making had been published: De Hollandse vioolmakers, by Dirk. J. Balfoort, published in 1931 by H.J. Paris in Amsterdam, and The Violin makers of the low countries (Belgium and Holland), written and published in English in 1955 by Max Möller in Amsterdam.
