Steffen Nowak, Maker of fine Violins, Violas and Cellos in baroque and modern style

Violoncello after Antonio Stradivari 1712 'Davidov' (740mm)

My latest 'modern' cello inspired by the golden period Forma B by A.Stradivari, the 1712 ex Davidov - Jaqueline du Pré - Yo-Yo Ma), and slightly modified with a body length of 740mm and a 685mm string length (as found in many old English Celli) it's a very comfortable cello to play without compromising on performance.

The well seasoned tonewoods utilized is Italian Dolomite spruce for the front. And the sycamore back (= acer pseudoplatanus, european maple) from Orford near Aldeburg in Suffolk, from a beautiful large and deeply figurd tree I converted for tonewood in 1994 in the grounds of Orford estate.
The transparent and non antiqued oil varnish a warm golden orange with red-brown hues..

Its' sound is evenly balanced, responsive and powerful.
3 foremost professional British cellists have all complimented the quality of this recent cello.
